Katie Louise Calhoun Carr, age 92 of Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018. She was the only child born to the late Carl Calhoun and Will Avery Head Calhoun on May 10, 1926 in Mt. Olive, Mississippi.

Louise attended Mount Olive (Mississippi) High School, before attending the University of Southern Mississippi, where she became a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She graduated with a degree in History Education and taught high school in Purvis, Mississippi. She married George Elbert Carr in 1948. George and Louise made their home in Mt. In 1961, the Carr family moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi where Louise lived until her death. She was an active member of Hawkins United Methodist Women, Pi Alpha Kappa, Good Shepherd Community Center, and various bridge clubs. She volunteered at Shady Lawn Nursing Home as their Sunday pianist. Most importantly, she was a stay-at-home mother who devoted her time and love to her two daughters.

Louise lost her husband of 66 years, George Elbert Carr, on September 27, 2014.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Carr Cotton (David) of Vicksburg, Mississippi and Sheila Carr Rees (Gavin) of Starkville, Mississippi; one granddaughter, Jennifer Rees Wilkinson (Geoff) of Louisville, Kentucky; and two great grandchildren, Rees Alan Wilkinson and Savannah Kate Wilkinson.

Louise was also a loving step grandmother to April Walker (Kirk) of Madison, Mississippi; Leigh Sherwin (Byron) of Vicksburg; Mary Beth Radford of Jackson, Mississippi; Brandi Aldridge of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and Adam Cotton of Raleigh, North Carolina and numerous step great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Fisher Funeral Home in Vicksburg, Mississippi on Wednesday, June 13 from 9:00-11:00 AM. A Service will immediately follow led by the pastor of Hawkins United Methodist Church, Sally Bevill. Louise will be laid to rest at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Mississippi at 4:00 PM.
