Anita Ruth Wood Saucier passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2018. She was 84 years old.

Anita was born in Ferriday, LA on October 9, 1933.  She graduated from Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, LA. She continued her education at Louisiana State University and majored in secondary education. After graduating she was a high school Home Economics teacher.  While at LSU she met and married the love of her life, Roger Thomas Saucier. They married April 18, 1957 in Baton Rouge, LA. Eventually Roger’s career led them to Vicksburg, MS. While her children were school-age she was a full time mom and homemaker. She eventually returned to part-time work as a book-keeper. She was a devoted and active member of Hawkins United Methodist Church until her death. She enjoyed fellowship with the Hawkins UMW, her Sunday school class and weekly Bible Study group and had many friends dear to her heart. She also volunteered at the Good Shepherd Community Center for many years as well as the former Medical Arts Clinic in Vicksburg.


Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Roger Saucier, her father and mother, Walter, Sr. and Ruth Bennett Wood and her brother, Walter Wood, Jr. She is survived by her children, Connie (Clay) Jenkins of Water Valley, MS and Brian (Darlene) Saucier of Mandeville, LA. She has four grandchildren, Sarah (John) Kubala, Seth Reeves, Taylor Saucier and Bailey Saucier. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.


Funeral Services will be at Hawkins United Methodist Church on Monday June 11, 2018, at 3:00 pm. Visitation will be from 2:00pm until the hour of service, graveside will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery


Pallbearers are Seth Reeves, John Kubala, Clay Jenkins, Rick Reeves, Johnny Price and Bob Walters. Memorials may be made to the Hawkins United Methodist Women or the Hawkins UMC Building Debt Fund.
